Lunch Lecture Series
UCDAR, within UC Davis Global Affairs, hosts a lunch lecture series each quarter to share information with the greater community at the University of California, Davis, about innovative research projects sponsored by UCDAR.
On May 16, 2018, Professor Bassam Younis presented his SRTP research project, a Demonstration of a Novel Technology for Water Disinfection at The Sustainable City in Dubai. His presentation was entitled “Let there by UV Light: Novel Water Disinfection”. Dr. Younis described his invention and brought a small prototype reactor which will be produced at the American University of Beirut using 3-D printing and distributed to a refugee settlement in Lebanon.
On February 7, 2018, Professors Jean Vandergheynst and Chris Simmons present their two SRTP research projects: Sequential Energy and Compost Production from Organic Residues and Developing Co-Products from Anaerobic Digestion. Their lecture was titled Integrated Organic Waste Recycling with Agriculture in a Resource-Limited Environment. This lecture drew over 50 students, staff and faculty.
On December 5, 2017, Professor Alan Meier and Diamond Developer Fellow Ms. Nermin Dessouky presented results from their Sustainability Research and Training Program (SRTP) research grant titled: Promoting a Culture of Sustainability at The Sustainability City: Identifying and Adapting Best Practices. They shared how the international residents at The Sustainable City in Dubai found community and increased their awareness of their energy footprint.
