Muslim Women and the Media Training Institute March 2019 Seminar

The first seminar for the 2019 Muslim Women and the Media Training Institute took place at the Arab American Cultural Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) on March 2-3, 2019. This seminar was led by four Muslim Women and the Media Training Institute Trainers – Suad Joseph from the University of California, Davis, Sarah Gualtieri from the University of Southern California, Elora Shehabuddin from Rice University, and Zeina Zaatari, director of the Arab American Cultural Center at UIC. The Institute had the pleasure of bringing together leading professionals on women and Islamic cultures that served as consultants and guest speakers. These experts were Shaheen Pasha from the Journalism Department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Nadine Naber, Associate Professor in Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Illinois, Sarah Abboud Assistant Professor in the Department of Women, Children and Family Health Science at the University of Illinois, Nicole Nguyen, Assistant Professor of Social Foundations of Education at the University of Illinois, and Naureen Ahmed from Support Embrace Empower Mental Health Advocacy (SEEMA). The first seminar hosted nineteen early career media professionals and graduate students in schools of journalism and communication from the United States, England, France, and Spain.
