October  

Due October 12, 2015 – NYUAD Research Fellowship in the Humanities

Funded by: The New York Abu Dhabi Institute

For the study of the Arab world for senior scholars and for junior scholars who have received their PhD in the last 5 years and want to turn their dissertation into a book to spend one or two semesters at the Institute.


Due October 15, 2015 – ACSS Postdoctoral Fellowship

Funded by: Arab Council for Social Sciences

For junior Arab scholars in the social sciences who have completed their PhD within the last 3 years and who are citizens or nationals of an Arab country. Need to have an academic mentor at an Arabic academic institution. 


Due October 15, 2015 – DPDF Student Fellowship Competition – early stage PhD Students

Funded by: The Social Science Research Council

For graduate students in a U.S. humanities or social science program who have completed two years of study to develop a dissertation research proposal. Must not be a U.S. citizen.

 

Due October 15, 2015 – Grants for Academic Research Activities

Funded by: The Iran Heritage Foundation

For academic projects with any branch of Iranian studies (not tuition fees or student living expenses), including art, archeology, architecture, history, or language. Grants may be available for research, travel, conferences, workshops, and publications.

 

Due October 15, 2015 – Grants for Contemporary Arts, Exhibition and Culture

Funded by: The Iran Heritage Foundation

Supports projects connected with contemporary arts, photography, theatre, film, music, and exhibition connected to Iranian studies.

 

Due October 21, 2015 – Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship

Funded by: Andrew W. Mellon Foundation & American Council of Learned Societies

For a humanities or social science ABD student enrolled at a U.S. university for the last year of dissertation writing. Must not have completed more than six years of graduate study.

 

Due End of October, 2015 – Sarah J. Clackson Coptic Fund

Funded by: Sarah J. Clackson Coptic Fund, Oriental Institute, University of Oxford

Open to applicants from outside and within the University of Oxford. The fund provides travel and research grants for work on Coptic manuscripts, especially those documented in the Clackson bequest at the Griffith Institute in the University of Oxford.

 

Due July 1, 2015 – January 31, 2016 – Horowitz Foundation Award – for PhD Candidates

Funded by: The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy

Supports research by PhD candidates in the social sciences and issues of policy relevance. For categories that get priority please see website.

 

Ongoing 2015 – Turkish Studies Academic Conference Grant

Funded by: The Institute of Turkish Studies

To support Turkish Studies scholars to host an academic conference in conjunction with ITS at their home institution of higher education in the U.S.

 

Ongoing 2015 – Short-Term Senior Fellowships in Iranian Studies

Funded by: The American Institute of Iranian Studies

For established scholars in Iranian studies with U.S. citizenship for short-term research (up to four weeks) in the social sciences or humanities in Iran or other relevant countries. Preference will be given to tenured faculty members with some knowledge of Persian.

Due November 1, 2015 – Dissertation Fieldwork Grant

Funded by: The Wenner-Gren Foundation

For students enrolled in a doctoral program (or equivalent if outside the U.S.) to support research in any area of anthropology. Qualified scholars are eligible without regard to nationality, institutional, or departmental affiliation.


Due November 1, 2015 – Post-Ph.D. Research Grant

Funded by: The Wenner-Gren Foundation

For individuals holding a PhD or equivalent degree to support research in any field of anthropology. Qualified scholars are eligible without regard to nationality, institutional, or departmental affiliation.


Due November 1, 2015 – ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Turkey

Funded by: The American Research Institute in Turkey, U.S. Government, and CAORC

For doctoral candidates and scholars for research in humanities or social sciences in Turkey. Must have an affiliation with a university in the U.S. or Canada or be a U.S. citizen.


Due November 1, 2015 – NEH Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey

Funded by: National Endowment for the Humanities/The American Research Institute in Turkey

For U.S. citizen or three-year residents of the U.S. who have completed all formal training to do research in Turkey in the humanities or a humanistically oriented aspect of another field (see website)


Due November 1, 2015 – Research Fellowships in the Humanities – for Postdocs 

Funded by: NYUAD Institute 

Residential fellowships in Abu Dhabi for humanities scholars studying the Arabic world, who want to turn their dissertation into a book manuscript. Must have received their PhD within the last five years. 


Due November 1, 2015 – Senior Research Fellowships in the Humanities – for Faculty 

Funded by: NYUAD Institute 

Residential fellowship in Abu Dhabi for mid-career humanities scholars studying the Arabic world. 

 

Due November 3, 2015 – International Dissertation Research Fellowship

Funded by: The Social Science Research Council

For humanities and social science graduate students who are enrolled in a U.S. PhD program and are ABD to conduct research outside the U.S. A U.S. comparative case will also be considered.


Due August 3 – November 3, 2015 – OCIS Fellowship – for Faculty and Professionals 

Funded by: UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office/ OCIS 

For faculty and professionals with 5+ years of experience who want to do research on the culture and civilization of Islamic culture and contemporary Muslim societies at the Cheving- Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK. Must be a citizen of Lebanon, Egypt, The Occupied Palestinian Territories (see website for full list of countries; U.S. citizens do NOT qualify); and planning on returning to their county. 


Due November 23, 2015 – Critical Language Scholarship Program – for Graduate Students

Funded by: U.S. Dept. of State 

For U.S. citizens to study abroad to learn Arabic and other critical languages.


Due July 31 – November 30, 2015 - Said Foundation Scholarships – for Graduate Students and Professionals

Funded by: The Said Foundation

For Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian, or Syrians who are under 35 years to study at select UK universities. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in the Foundation’s target countries (with some exceptions), and whose study subject will enable them to contribute to the development of their home country.
