  3. Dissertation Fieldwork Grant

    3. Information: For students enrolled in a doctoral program (or equivalent if outside the U.S.) to support research in any area of anthropology.   4. International Dissertation Research Fellowship
    1. Due: November 7th 2017
    2. Funded by: The Social Science Research Council
    3. Information: The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. https://www.ssrc.org/fellowships/view/idrf-fellowship/
  5. Harowitz Research Grants
    1. Due: December 1, 2017
    2. Funded by: Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy
    3. Information: The foundation supports projects with a social policy application on either a global or local level. Applications are evaluated based on the Trustees’ assessment of criteria such as: feasibility, applicability, originality, methodology, theoretically informed or empirically rich research, and letters of recommendation. https://www.horowitz-foundation.org/grant-info 
  6. Conference and Workshop Grants
    1. Due: Bi-yearly – December 1st // June 1st
    2. Funded by: Wenner-Gren Foundation
    3. Information: Conference and Workshop Grants are for amounts up to $20,000. In accordance with the mission of the Foundation, priority is given to events that foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology and advance significant and innovative anthropological research.
  7. Pre-doctoral Dissertation Research in Iranian Studies
    1. Due: January 10, 2018
    2. Funded by: The American Institution of Iranian Studies
    3. Information: AIIrS offers fellowships for one- to two-month research travel to countries with resources essential to the dissertation.   8. Palestinian Research Fellowships

    2. Funded by: Palestinian American Research Center
    3. The research project must make a contribution to Palestinian Studies.     2. Funded by: The Council of American Overseas Research Centers
    3. This fund supports advanced regional or trans-regional research in the humanities, social sciences, or allied natural sciences for U.S. doctoral candidates and scholars who have already earned their Ph.D. https://www.caorc.org/fellowships
  11. NEH Senior Research Fellowship Program
    1. Due: January 31, 2018
    2. Funded by: The Council of American Overseas Research Centers
    3. This fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities for U.S. postdoctoral scholars, and foreign national postdoctoral scholars who have been residents in the US for three or more years. https://www.caorc.org/fellowships
  12. ICWA Fellowship Program

  13. Wadsworth International Fellowships

    3.     3. Information: Seed Grants provide modest start-up funding to conduct applied research or to pilot initiatives that fall beyond the scope of its Doctoral and Faculty Research programs.   15. The Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Foundation / BRISMES Scholarships

    3. Information: Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both.   17. Al Alfi Foundation Sustainable Development Fellowship

    3. Information: Fellowship applicants must possess professional experience and exceptional skills, as well as an outstanding passion for sustainable development.   18. Cynthia Nelson Endowed Fellowships in Gender and Women's Studies (IGWS)

Due May 1, 2016 – Fejos Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ethnographic Film

Funded by: The Wenner-Gren Foundation

For individuals who have received a PhD or equivalent within the last 10 years to support the production/post-production of an ethnographic film related to their research.  Qualified scholars are eligible without regard to nationality, institutional, or departmental affiliation; but preference is given to untenured/non-permanent academic scholars.

 

Due May 1, 2016 – Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships

Funded by: The Wenner-Gren Foundation

For individuals who have received a PhD or equivalent within the last 10 years to support the writing up of completed anthropological research, including articles and books etc.  Qualified scholars are eligible without regard to nationality, institutional, or departmental affiliation; but preference is given to untenured/non-permanent academic scholars.

 

February 1 – May 1, 2016 – AFAC Documentary Program

Funded by: The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC)

For Arab filmmakers to support production/postproduction of a documentary exploring the social realities in the Arab World.

 

Due May 6, 2016 – Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program

Funded by: U.S. Department of Education & International & Foreign Language Education

For ABD students at U.S. institution enrolled in modern foreign language and area studies programs with a research project focusing on Africa, the Near East, and other specific regions.  Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident with required foreign language skills to carry out project.

 

April 1 – May 31, 2016 - Academy Asfari Fellowship

Funded by: Asfari Foundation/Chatham House

Supports the research, development, etc. of citizens of Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, or Syria, and their displaced citizens living elsewhere in the Middle East, engaged in civil society.  Applicants should be at the mid-stage of their career, and may come from academia, NGOs, business, government, or the media.

Funded by: The Institute of Turkish Studies

To support Turkish studies scholars to host an academic conference in conjunction with ITS at their home institution of higher education in the U.S.

 

Ongoing 2016 – Short-Term Senior Fellowships in Iranian Studies

Funded by: The American Institute of Iranian Studies

For established scholars in Iranian studies with U.S. citizenship for short-term research (up to four weeks) in the social sciences or humanities in Iran or other relevant countries.  Preference will be given to tenured faculty members with some knowledge of Persian.

Funds conferences & workshops that foster an international community of research scholars in anthropology.

 

Due June 8,  2016 - EURIAS Fellowships – for Postdoc and Senior Researchers

Funded by: Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study

For researchers from any country, primarily for research in the humanities and social sciences.   Supports 10-month residency at one of 16 participating institutes.

 

Opens June 1, 2016 - Regional Events, Training and Research General Grant

Funded by: The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture

For projects in all fields of cultural production, research, training, and workshops, etc. by any Arab individual or at a non-Arab institution, as long as it is relevant to the Arab region.

 

Due April 15 - November 1, 2016 – Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans – for Graduate Students

Ongoing 2016 – CBRL Pilot Study Awards – for Postdocs, Faculty, and Staff

Funded by:  The Council for British Research in the Levant

For post-doc scholars in the humanities and social sciences, ordinarily resident in the UK, to cover expenses for initial exploratory work etc. for a project in Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordon, Syria, Cyprus, or Israel.  Applications may be submitted at any point during the year, and will be considered at the next appropriate CBRL Committee Meeting.
